What's CasaViva?

CasaViva is a project which wants to be open to the community, available to welcome irreverent initiatives that propose new ways of thinking, through music, painting, theatre, talks, cinema, workshops, literature, dance. It's a free entrance space.

CasaViva does not pay the artists and it does not ask anyone to pay to get in. Free entrance. Each artist is free to ask for some help at the end of his show. The advertisement of the events is the organizers’ responsibility. CasaViva participates through its blog and mailing list. In order to do so, we need to have as soon as possible (at least a week before) the information about what will happen there: text and image (400x300 dpi). CasaViva records both sound and image during performances, and will share those contents through its usual diffusion channels – blog, facebook, radio. From time to time, we usually make some CDs with songs from all the bands that played here. If you think that to be abusive, it just means that you ‘ve chosen the wrong place to play.

CasaViva is a place free of violence. Sometimes violence arises where you least expect it, a careless moshing can be enough. That's why we appeal to performers to help us enforce this message, in the promotion of their event and/or during the performance. We are present throughout the event to help out in case things get out of hand, but we'd rather prevent such situations by all possible means rather than be forced to intervene.

CasaViva is supported by a dozen of friends who enjoy to be envolved in the project. People who open and close the door, make sure the initiatives are carried on, promote the debate, the thinking, the cleaning of ashtrays, the floor and the WCs. In order to keep the space – and following a philosophy of sharing rights and responsibilities –, we expect that anyone who looks for the house to make something happen will contribute in a similar way.

CasaViva is a private house, temporarily borrowed by the owner with no money included. Supported by those friends who don't want to institutionalize the project. In exchange, all we have to do, is to preserve the space and give it life. Giving it animation as an alternative or putting our hands in its skin. You can intervene, as long as you respect the structure and some facings.

CasaViva will always be a private house. It is open only when there's something happening inside, but the door is always closed and people need to knock to get in. There's nothing on the outside showing what goes on inside. The concerts (3 band/day max.) have to be on Fridays and Saturdays and must end at 10,00 pm. CasaViva believes in autonomous networks of culture and free software in permanent construction. Therefore, even though we can hear and download songs from Myspace with linux, we chose to advantage other sharing networks more distributed and less controlled by large corporations. Netlabels, like jamendo, phlow magazine, enough records, alg-a lab or commonsbaby are alternatives for publication and dissemination. If you want more information, write to this email or we can talk about that when you’ll get here to play, act, etc ...

CasaViva has 4 floors, a little garden and a terrace. Half a dozen of free rooms, a kitchen and 2 WCs. A long corridor and stairs with natural light from above. It also has: a projector, a PA (mix table and its amplifier and also the sound exits - PEVEY POWER 250 WATTS 8 OHMS) and 1 mics with stand. It's beginning to collect and catalogue movies, cds, magazines, books, fanzines... to share. The information is always free.

CasaViva exists since April 2006. Because of the reasons stated in its
